Brookshire Brothers is WILD about the Ellen Trout Zoo! On Friday, May 12th, Brookshire Brothers employees put in some serious sweat equity at the Ellen Trout Zoo as they added another chapter to their annual Zoo Work Day. The tradition started 14 years ago when the zoo needed to improve its infrastructure and Brookshire Brothers responded by allowing its employees to spend a day helping spruce up the zoo. This year, Brookshire Brothers employees across the company, including electricians, plumbers, painters, and carpenters, will donate more than 300 man-hours. To put that into perspective, it’s the same as a Brookshire Brothers employee-owner working at the zoo for eight weeks! Mayor Bob Brown will be in attendance on behalf of the City of Lufkin to thank Brookshire Brothers for their continued commitment to one of the best small town zoos in America. Vendor partners Nathan’s Hotdogs, Flowers Baking Company, and Hostess will provide lunch for the Brookshire Brothers work crew and their colleagues at the zoo.

As Your Community Grocer Since 1921, Brookshire Brothers has a legacy of giving. Although Brookshire Brothers’ giving spans its entire market area, the company is truly invested in its neighbor across the street from its corporate office. During the last 10 years, Brookshire Brothers has given the Ellen Trout Zoo more than $171,000 from the company and its charitable foundation. Customers even have a way to give back to the zoo! With every purchase of a box of HyTop animal crackers, Brookshire Brothers gives a quarter to the zoo. Those quarters have added up to nearly $19,000 and it’s still growing! In addition to volunteer and financial support, you can often find employees walking around the Ellen Trout Lake or taking a lunch break in the zoo parking lot.

Brookshire Brothers just celebrated its 95th birthday with more expansion plans on the horizon. The company believes in super serving its customers and its communities with quality goods, great values and the extra bonus of Shopping With Someone You Know
