Food Safety & Sanitation Inspector/Safety Auditor – Corporate Office – Lufkin, TX


SUMMARY:  The corporate food safety assistant is a support person to aid the Food Safety Compliance Officer, corporate distribution warehouse, central bakery and store directors in areas relating to retail and manufactured food compliance, inspections and training management and employees in food safety for federal, state and local government standards, and company policy/procedures. Territory includes Texas and Louisiana. Office based in East Texas.

RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.   Conduct certified food manager training for management personnel. Perform continuous improvement training as requested by the store director for any and all employees to enhance their skills. Provide internal inspections to improve food safety knowledge and compliance. Field food safety questions and forward concerns to supervisor for review and disposition. Work with store directors, assistant store directors and department managers to improve standards in food safety. Is a liaison between federal, state and local health departments, corporate management, and stores to keep both adequately informed of food safety issues and areas of concern. Promote food safety through continued management and employee awareness training. Conduct food safety and sanitation inspections at retail locations to improve food safety knowledge and compliance. Identify unsafe practices to protect the public from food-borne diseases, vector-borne diseases and environmental public health hazards. Conduct safety audits at retail locations in order to identify unsafe working or shopping conditions. Assist and train retail employees in safe food handling practices and safe employment practices. Monitor employee compliance regarding the company’s food safety and safety programs. Generate detailed reports that are shared with various departments within the Company. Work with store management and other departments within the company to correct any unsafe practices, conditions, or actions noted during the food safety or safety audit. Conduct electric pallet jack safety trainings for retail employees and store management.

CERTIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: This position requires food safety inspection experience. Related food service experience is beneficial. A Bachelor of Science Degree in a related field is required. A Registered Sanitarian License is beneficial but not required if the applicant pursues Sanitarian in Training status with the State of Texas. Applicant must be an Instructor/Proctor with ServSafe for Certified Food Management training. Knowledge of TFER, cGMP’s, labeling requirements of manufactured foods, USDA Nutrition and Country of Origin Labeling is beneficial.
