Lufkin-Based Grocer Expands its Footprint

With the stroke of a pen, Brookshire Brothers Friday acquired the assets of a family-owned company with similar core values.   David's Supermarkets, a grocery chain based in Grandview, Texas, was formerly owned by the Waldrip family. The Waldrips operated stores in dozens of small towns throughout north central Texas for 50 years.

Following the closing in Cleburne, Brookshire Brothers President and CEO Jerry Johnson said, "The Waldrip family serves communities similar to those we serve.  Their values align with ours. We understand their customers. "  Johnson went on to say that the former David's employees, numbering approximately 550, have the opportunity to become not just employees but owners of Brookshire Brothers.

The David's acquisition gives Brookshire Brothers a presence adjacent to its existing market area. John Alston, Chief Operations Officer for Brookshire Brothers, adds, "We feel these communities in north central Texas are the heart of America.  Serving them and serving with them in their communities will be our privilege.  We are pleased to offer all existing store level employees of David's a position with our company.  Some of the corporate staff has also chosen to come on board including several third generation Waldrip family members."

Of the 25 stores, 9 will fly the David's Supermarkets or David's Express banners, one will remain Pecan Foods and 15, including one recently opened in Meridian, Texas, will be Brookshire Brothers.  All will share the Brookshire Brothers core value of celebrating family and community.

Thank you for making our transition, thus far, from David's employees to Brookshire Brothers' employees one of comfort and ease. Times like these can be extremely stressful and nerve racking, but your transition team has been understanding, patient and wonderful, and I am proud to be part of the transition as a former David's employee and a new Brookshire Brothers' employee. I see positive results from this acquisition for my fellow employees, our customers and our family and friends. Thank you again and may we all be a beacon of positive change and hope for America and our community.

I think this was a bad move that David's did. I personally think that Brookshires Bros will dismantle some stores originally owned by David's . I have lived in Ferris for almost 20 yrs. and have been shopping at David's for those years. It will take a lot for me to accept Brookshires Bros.

I live in Ferris and did shop at Davids every week, I have to say I will no longer be shopping there now that it is Brookshires because prices have sky rocketed, many things have jumped as much as 75%. Spending a couple dollars more to shop in Dallas is well worth it.

I want to file a complaint about harassament from one of your store managers. 1st he made a couple of cnndescending comments, now he follows me around the store. Everytime I go there when he is there. It has been going on about a year now. DeQuincy, La store. This manager usually works weekdays, sometimes Sat, which I was in the store this past Saturday. It started about a year ago, when I was grocery shopping. I bought some meat from your discount bend as well. He saw the meat in my shopping cart, which was not all discount meat, but his 1st comment was, did you get enough meat. He saw me leave the discount section, and he walked over to the meat and looked at it. Then he took all the left discount meat from the bend and took it back to the meat dept. He then followed me to the chashier, made a condescending remark, remarks, then as I was leaving he made a couple more insulting remarks. I had returned to the store a couple of more times, he stares at me constantly, and follows me around the stare, treating me as if I were a thief. I finally quit going to the store for a long time, inconviently I go to the Sulphur, La store if I need to. It is 30 miles away. This past Saturday, Memorial holidays, I went to the store to use the bathroom, my son had gone in shopping, I waited in the car, he was standing in the front by the cashiers, as I passed towards the back where the bathrooms are. He followed me and went into the back part. After I came out, he appeared again, so I started looking at something in the bend, then walked around a bit, just to see what he would do, he followed and watched me. I walked up to the front to leave, he returned back to the front of the store. He stood by the cashiers, and I looked at some of the dresses.sun dresses in the front. MY son was cashing out his groceries, so I left out of the store. He watched me. I have had enough of this harassasment and do wish someone would ask him to stop, it is annoying, being watched as if I were some kind of criminal. Please. I do not go to Brookshires too often because of him, and now I go to Kroeger to do my shopping. It is also in Sulphur, La. It has been a year, I have let it pass, but after this past Saturday, I have had enough.
